U.S. leads world in substance abuse, WHO finds
Not surprised by this finding at all. Americans are the most alienated of all people on the planet Earth. Alienation and boredom are factors that tip people toward experimenting with drugs. And instead of treating it as an illness, Americans treat it as a crime, exacerbating the problem. Drug use is heavy in Europe, but it’s much more out in the open. Here, I find out about people with serious addictions who in real life come across like they are stand-up individuals. But they’re shooting, snorting, smoking and abusing every pharmalogical under the sun. It’s another ‘systemic’ vs. ‘individual’ debate. - G
